Burn Card 04:05
-- Lyrics -- Drinking leads to my worried mind My worried mind leads to you Thinking of you leads nowhere But to the devil and the ocean blue I asked the moon for orchids She said how about a drop of blood From a rolling stone She never fails to tickle my funny bone How do you steal what you really want When what you really want is free And how do you deal when you’re lost at the wheel Honey, thinking how it ought to be You held my love for ransom And posted a reward I could not afford And dynamite from the ceiling to the floor Yeah, from your one-eyed jacks to your rolled up trips I'll be gone when your pocket aces flip And it ain't no river that needs a damn Just a slow and steady drip I'll be your burn card Lost in the shuffle At the bottom of the deck Trying to hide where the highway is low And the low way is mine You can burn me, turn me Out to the snow and the wind and the rain Again and again and again I'm just'a leaving a little worse than when I came Trouble is as trouble does When it’s on a troubled mind Reasons come and reasons will go And the blind are following the blind A coffin and a cradle The daughter and the holy ghost in the same room Me, I'm just making the dust fly with the broom Yeah, from your one-eyed jacks to your rolled up trips I'll be gone when your pocket aces flip And it ain't no river that needs a damn Just a slow and steady drip I'll be your burn card Lost in the shuffle At the bottom of the deck Trying to hide where the aces are low And the blinds are too high You can burn me, turn me Out to the snow and the wind and the rain Again and again and again and again and again I'm just'a leaving a little worse than when I came

-- Lyrics -- On the second day of June Beneath an almost crescent moon We played echoes with the fireflies You were almost seventeen On the bright side of a dream Blowing kisses to the paperboy And the ribbons that we drew On Magnolia Avenue It was September before they washed away We were driving in the dark Getting lost in Echo Park Heard The Luyas on the radio At the tolling of a bell Rays of sunlight, morning fell Clouds cast shadow on the fields below All of my words come tumbling down Like violets in your curls Oh, maybe it’s just this kind of man Goes diving for a pearl Till all my shackles and chains come off I'm welded to the world Was that so long ago? With my ankles in the sand Holding water in my hand Disappearing beneath the shallow sweep You were running with balloons Some were yellow, some were blue Tied a message and you let them go What I wanted to convey But it was more than I could say Was how beautiful I thought that was You were almost seventeen On the bright side of a dream Blowing kisses to the paperboy All of my words come tumbling down Like violets in your curls Oh, maybe it’s just this kind of man Goes diving for a pearl Till all my shackles and chains come off I'm welded to the world All my leaves come autumning down My mouth is full of birds Maybe it’s just this kind of man Goes diving for a pearl Till all my wheels and gears come off I'm welded to the world Was that so long ago? Was that so long ago?

--Lyrics-- I've never been a captain Always been a sailor And until the sea releases me A sailor I will remain Well you worry 'bout your mama Worry 'bout your baby And you dream about a love that only comes your way When you close your eyes at night They may come to you with diamonds May come to you with roses They may come to you with promises But darling, I promise only this It’s a sad old world, sad old world Got to keep on trying that's All I know, all I know If you're lucky enough to have her you Hold that pearl, hold that pearl If you're lucky enough to have her you Hold that pearl, hold that pearl Hold her, hold her We all come here as strangers Beggars at the table But we leave here arm in arm Laughing at the morning light It’s a sad old world, sad old world Got to keep on trying that's All I know, all I know If you're lucky enough to have her you Hold that pearl, hold that pearl If you're lucky enough to have her you Hold that pearl, hold that pearl Hold her, hold her Hold her, hold her Hold her, hold her Old and new Borrowed and blue And everything, everything comes to you

-- Lyrics -- I could have warned you But you were so young I'm staying close to her Never leaving her These bodies mark the point So bright I'm staying close to her I'm staying close I'm staying close to her
